Review and Wear Test of Rimmel London Stay Matte Mouse Foundation

I’ll be honest. Rimmel has never been on my radar. They don’t strike me as the most “inclusive” of makeup brands. But since I can’t help to browse down every single makeup aisle at Walmart, I say they have some dark shades that just might work for me.

I’m no stranger to having to “make something work” for my skintone. I’ve been doing it since I was 13 years old. If something is too light, I can add a ton of bronzer or mix it with something that I already have. Having to mix foundations, especially with different formulas infuriates me. I don’t get to reap the benefits of said foundation because I’ve changed the formula by virtue of just mixing it with a different on just to get a good color match.
Well, having said all that, I was willing to give Rimmel a fair chance. Today I wore the shade Deep Mocha, without mixing, just to see if it would live up to it’s claims.

I took before and after pictures as well as pictures after 1 hour, 4 hours and 8 hours. I took pictures in the same lighting conditions each time.

Rimmel describes their foundation as

A feather light, oil free formula with an airy mousse texture that won’t feel heavy or greasy. Delivers all day shine control and blends flawlessly for a natural looking matte finish. Minimizes the appearance of pores. The wait is over – finally, shine has met its matte.

The texture is pretty light, almost with a whipped texture.  The coverage is absolutely full! I tried to sheer it about a bit because it felt almost too heavy but it was having none of that!  There was no difference when I applied it with a sponge or brush. The darkest color was still a hair too light.  I had to color correct some of my discoloration to keep the foundation for turning almost gray in those areas.

The finish was velvety and really matte.  I would NOT recommend this for dry skin.  Even as an oily person, I had to make sure my skin was well moisturized and primed or else it really emphasized all of the pores and texture on my skin.

Here is what the foundation looks like after an hour

Here it is after 4 hours

It hold held up pretty well up to this point.  There was some fading around my nose and mouth, but overall it still looked fresh.

8 Hours Later

After 8 hours there was a fair amount of fading under my eyes and around my nose.  It started to breakdown on my cheeks which tend to be really oily.

Final Thoughts

Overall this is a really nice foundation. There is a really significant jump between the two darkest colors which is annoying and a few darker shades added to the collection wouldn’t hurt.  This suits more oily skin types best. I probably wont repurchase this unless there is a shade extension.

XOXO Aisha

My Anti-Beauty Treatment…Haul???

This post may contain affiliate links.  I may earn a small commission when you shop through my links.  This will cost nothing to you or impact you shopping experience in any way.

Okay, so i know the title doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue, but bear with me. I really enjoy a good anti-haul post as much as the next girl. But I got to thinking. We’re supposed to be buffed and polished from head to toe, or else it seems like we don’t care what people think of us. Well, I do care what other people think, just not enough to actually do anything about it!

I’m a makeup junkie, I fully admit that! I have been ever since my mother brought home her makeup kit from Wilfred Beauty Academy (This place is still around apparently) full of the brightest colors that the 80’s had to offer. But, because I love makeup so much, people might see me as “high maintenance”. I’m far from it actually. Below is a list of beauty treatments that I have no time for or interest in.

Nail Art

I’m not interested in having pretty nails or anything nail related really. I tried to get into the trend in college. I would spend what little money I had on a full set only to wish that I hadn’t gotten them done in the first place. I hate that way they feel so much! Even a simple manicure is more than I’m capable of maintaining. I’m a mother and children are gross! There, I said it! I spend my days cleaning up disasters and washing my hands more than an ER nurse! There’s no gel manicure on earth that can stand up to that!

Exception: Pedicures

Now I’m not talking about crazy nail polish colors or decals or anything like that. I’m talking about trying to keep from looking like I can climb a tree bare foot or shred my sheets Edward Scissorhands style!

Wigs, Weaves or Long Hair in General

This is a bit of a touchy subject for me. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my hair my entire life (that story deserves its own post). For a long time, I associated long hair with femininity. And dammit, I was gonna have long hair by hook or by crook! But after trying out weaves and wigs of varying styles and lengths, I discovered something. I. Hate. Long. Hair! I think it can look pretty and does look pretty on other people, but I cannot stand the way it feels. I hate the feeling of hair on the back of my neck or my face. There is also the extra fun fact that I’m hot all the damn time and having a bunch of hair sticking to my sweaty face and body is not my idea of a good time.

Exception: I’m a woman, and I reserve the right to change m my mind at anytime!

Fashion:  Like, real fashion!

Oh boy! This is a tough one. One I’ve hand, I’m too old to shop fast fashion places like Forever 21 and Charlotte Ruse, but I still feel too young for places like Talbots and Chico’s.  Then there’s the whole “mom” thing where I don’t want to wear anything too fancy because it’s just going to end up covered in BBQ sauce and snot.  But then again, I don’t want to live in yoga pants and stained t-shirts forever.  Plus there’s the fact that I’m incredibly cheap.  That doesn’t help either.

I love to browse the Instagram’s of places like Elloqui and eShakti, but they are quite a bit out of my price range. However, it is time for me to start dressing like an actual grown-up.

Exception/Solution: Thrift!

#SecondHandfirst! I resell clothing on eBay part-time.  Because of that, I know what to look for at thrift shops and online places like Thredup!  My goal is to try my hand at a capsule wardrobe full of higher quality pieces.

I’m also looking for a little help in the styling department by trying out Stitch Fix!  Somethings you just have to outsource things!

I love makeup!  I’ve picked my vice.  If I try to be stylish from literal head to toes, I would be dead broke in no time.

How to repourpose (seemingly) useless makeup

I am a huge fan of beauty boxes! They are a great way to beef up your collection for a modest investment. Depending on what box service you choose, the value can be incredible!

Subscription boxes have a down side though. I was with Ipsy for almost a year before it dawned on me that I was seeing the same items over and over again, in a different makeup bag. Whats worse, no matter how many times I updated my profile, the colors they chose for me rarely seemed to work. That meant I was stuck with tons of pinky-mauve liquid lipsticks that I would never use.

One solution is to join BST (buy/sell/trade) makeup groups and swap or sell you unwanted items. If that’s not something you’re interested in, then re-purposing may be the way to go!

Liquid lipsticks make awesome blushes!

I have super oily skin, but I have always loved the look of cream blushes. They always look so natural and gave off the healthiest flush, unless you have oily skin. Then you end up looking overly slick and greasy.

In my August Boxycharm, I received a #grlpwr liquid lipstick in the color Date Night. This was yet another pinky-mauvy nude color that was all the rage this year. It’s a gorgeous shade and the kind of color brown girls like me can “make work” by adding a darker lip liner. But I’m never really in the mood to manipulate lip colors, so they end up collecting dust in a drawer someplace.

One day I was playing around and swatching some of my lip colors when I thought this color would make an awesome blush color, and I was right! It dries super fast so I dabbed it on the apples of my cheeks and voila! Perfect flush of color!

Useless Mascara

I know what you’re thinking! How can mascara possibly be useless. Well, it all depends on the formula, the brush and the color. I’ve received mascaras that hardly showed up no matter how many layers I pop on.

One easy fix is to use a small eyeliner brush and, well, use it as an eyeliner! Problem solved.

Sheet Masks a plenty!

I’m starting to collect a small country’s worth of sheet masks from all of my subscription boxes. I get it! They’re small, light, easy to ship and have a big moment right now. But if you’re anything like me, sitting still with one of these slimy masks on for 20 minutes can feel like an eternity!

The best solution I’ve come up with is to snip off the corner of the mask packet and squeeze the contents into a little pot or jar with a lid! Now you have your own little pot of essence without the downtime.

Multiple items that you literally have no earthly use for

Sometimes there is no easy fix. Sometimes you end up with a basket full of sample sized products that you may never touch. There was one point with Ipsy where I was getting dry shampoo month after month. I’m a black women with natural hair, what am I going to do with dry shampoo???

A great use for mini products is to either donate them, do an Instagram or YouTube giveaway, or even sell them in lots on Ebay!

What is your favorite way to repurpose makeup??

How to get the most out of makeup try on apps

So I’ve been feeling like absolute garbage the past few days. My kids have brought home a fun little bug (thanks kids!). I was planning to do a FOTD, but putting makeup on is the last thing I feel like doing.

I have found a way to get my makeup fix without applying a stitch of makeup! There is, in fact, an app for that! My favorite by far is an app called Perfect365. This app lets you take selfies and accurately apply a wide range of makeup looks. You can even apply makeup to live videos of yourself.

You can take an ordinary picture like this and instantly try on tons of different looks, like:

And my favorite…

You can even see side-by-side before and after!

This app has looks by makeup artists and makeup brand along with product recommendations!

So here are a few tips to get the most out of apps like these:

  1. Take selfies face natural light if possible.
  2. At minimum, put your brows on! I tried on a few looks without doing this first and YIKES!!’
  3. Don’t be afraid to try some outrageous looks! You might just surprise yourself!

At least the lipstick is pretty!

I would LOVE to see what looks you come up with in this app! Try it for yourself and tag me @cuteandwicked on Instagram!

This post was NOT sponsored by Perfect365. All opinions are my own.

Wet n Wild has the 1st Gel Lipliners?

I stumbled across these babies in Walmart while I was picking up more Black Radiance lipsticks that were in sale. Honestly I didn’t know gel lip liners weren’t already a thing! But according to the package, Wet n Wild has the first gel lip liner!

They come in 6 shades and retail for $2.99 each! I picked up 3 shades, Red the Scene, Gone Burgundy and Plum Together.

The liners are retractable and the texture of these are so smooth and creamy! They don’t skip or drag at all.

I can’t wait to pick up the more colors!

What is your favorite budget lip liner??

Anti-haul: Drugstore Edition

Hello Everyone!

I’ve seen a lot of anti-hauls lately. Although I think they are awesome, they all seem to center around higher end products. My makeup budget is slim to none, and slim just skipped town! So for me to proclaim that I’m not going to buy something I couldn’t afford anyway is redundant.

Having said that, there isn’t a shortage of drugstore duds being shoveled out by drugstore brands! So here is my list of drugstore makeup I’m not gonna buy!!!(In my best Kimberly Clark voice)

1. The Mad for Mattes Holy Smokes Palette

Everyone went bananas for the earlier releases of these palettes. I couldn’t find any of the colors to save my life!! But then I lucked up and found a Need it Nudes and couldn’t wait to try it! It’s supposed to be a dupe for the urban decay naked palette but I’m damn sure the naked palette is way more pigmented than these things!! I swear if feels like something dropped some food coloring into pans of chaulk! Uggg!! So I’m for certain that the Holy Smokes is no where near the Urban Decay version.

2. Maybelline Baby Lips Color Balm Crayon

I’m trying to be more of a grown up when it comes to makeup. I’ve been lured in way too many times by cutsie packing  like this. This is giving me strong Bonni Bell vibes circa 1993! I have enough glossy balms, so I think I’ll skip these!

3. NYX Elements Shadow Palettes

I was beyond excited when I saw these palettes! But,okay…somebody needs to pull NYX aside and let them know they are in fact a drugstore brand. I feel like as a brand NYX has been sneakily jacking up prices to the point they really shouldn’t be in drugstores anymore. Go on to Ulta where you belong!

4. Burt’s Bees Makeup Collection

This entire collection is the cosmetics industry’s equivalent of melatonin!  Who says that “natural” products have to be a complete snooze-fest?  The colors are blah, the packaging is a little too on the nose for me and the shade range is…just no.  When this line dropped, nothing about it make me go, ohhhh!!!  I’ve got to have that!  I think i’ll pass on everything here.

5. Color Correcting Palettes of any kind

It’s really unlikely that anyone one persons face is going to need that many correctors. These kinds of palettes are great for working makeup artists and belong no where near one persons face.

Are there any products that you’re not going to buy??  Let me know in the comment section down below!

September Beauty: Challenge Day 6

This post contains affiliate links.  This means I may earn a small commission if you choose to shop through my link.  This will not affect your shopping experience in any way.

I never met a challenge I didn’t like! Well, a makeup challenge anyway. I saw the #septemberbeautychallenge2017 on beauty and the ballrooms’s blog (awesome blogger, check her out!!!) and I knew that I wanted in! I missed the first few days because I caught an awful cold from my lovely children. So this is my first submission to the challenge.

Day #6 Blushers

So when I was going through my makeup stash for this post, I realized I only have 2 blushes! Technically 6 if you count my quad. For comparison, I have 5 shadow palettes, almost a dozen lip products and too many brow products to count!

elf Blush Quad in Dark $6.00

This elf blush quad in dark is perfect for any look I want to create. I get two warm and two cool shades that I can mix and match however I want.

Milani Baked Blush $7.49

My Milani blush is so well-loved that I’ve rubbed off the name on the bottom, is amazing because is gives me a shimmery, peachy glow that doesn’t come off too bright.

It just goes to show, quality is way better than quantity!

What are some of your favorite blushers??

I’ve been on the fence about tying Instagram hyped products like Wunderbrow! It’s not because I thought it wouldn’t work, but because I hate ordering hyped products online. Because returning products bought online is such a hassle, I end up just keeping them.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon Wunderbow just sitting on a CVS end cap!! I see you CVS!!

And because they have such a generous return policy… and because I spend way too much time there, it makes returns a breeze!

I plan to test this out over the weekend and give a full review!

Does your CVS carry Wunderbrow???
