Okay, so i know the title doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue, but bear with me. I really enjoy a good anti-haul post as much as the next girl. But I got to thinking. We’re supposed to be buffed and polished from head to toe, or else
I am a huge fan of beauty boxes! They are a great way to beef up your collection for a modest investment. Depending on what box service you choose, the value can be incredible!
Subscription boxes have a down side though. I was with Ipsy for almost a year before it dawned on me that I was seeing the same items over and over again, in a different makeup bag. Whats worse, no matter how many times I updated my profile, the colors they chose for me rarely seemed to work. That meant I was stuck with tons of pinky-mauve liquid lipsticks that I would never use.
One solution is to join BST (buy/sell/trade) makeup groups and swap or sell you unwanted items. If that’s not something you’re interested in, then re-purposing may be the way to go!
Liquid lipsticks make awesome blushes!
I have super oily skin, but I have always loved the look of cream blushes. They always look so natural and gave off the healthiest flush, unless you have oily skin. Then you end up looking overly slick and greasy.
In my August Boxycharm, I received a #grlpwr liquid lipstick in the color Date Night. This was yet another pinky-mauvy nude color that was all the rage this year. It’s a gorgeous shade and the kind of color brown girls like me can “make work” by adding a darker lip liner. But I’m never really in the mood to manipulate lip colors, so they end up collecting dust in a drawer someplace.
One day I was playing around and swatching some of my lip colors when I thought this color would make an awesome blush color, and I was right! It dries super fast so I dabbed it on the apples of my cheeks and voila! Perfect flush of color!
I know what you’re thinking! How can mascara possibly be useless. Well, it all depends on the formula, the brush and the color. I’ve received mascaras that hardly showed up no matter how many layers I pop on.
One easy fix is to use a small eyeliner brush and, well, use it as an eyeliner! Problem solved.
Sheet Masks a plenty!
I’m starting to collect a small country’s worth of sheet masks from all of my subscription boxes. I get it! They’re small, light, easy to ship and have a big moment right now. But if you’re anything like me, sitting still with one of these slimy masks on for 20 minutes can feel like an eternity!
The best solution I’ve come up with is to snip off the corner of the mask packet and squeeze the contents into a little pot or jar with a lid! Now you have your own little pot of essence without the downtime.
Multiple items that you literally have no earthly use for
Sometimes there is no easy fix. Sometimes you end up with a basket full of sample sized products that you may never touch. There was one point with Ipsy where I was getting dry shampoo month after month. I’m a black women with natural hair, what am I going to do with dry shampoo???
A great use for mini products is to either donate them, do an Instagram or YouTube giveaway, or even sell them in lots on Ebay!
