Anyone that loves makeup probably has an Instagram account as well as YouTube makeup tutorials playing in the background of their lives! Anybody…no? Just me??? I’ll see myself out. And as someone who watched way too many makeup tutorials, I started to doubt my own skills.
The most important part of eyeshadow is pigmentation. It’s easy to be fooled by super saturated colors of swatches online. What they don’t mention is that they are probably really digging into the eyeshadow pans and pressing really hard to get that much color payoff right from the beginning. It’s easy to be duped (pun intended). That is one way for high-end makeup brands to convince us that a $129 dollar palette (I’m looking at you Natasha Denona!) is so worth it because there is no way you’re going to get that kind of color payoff with any drugstore brand.
That is probably the reason that I own so many eyeshadow palettes. I’ve been searching for my unicorn. Even after having worked in cosmetics for over 13 years, I convinced myself that I wasn’t getting rich, pigmented colors because I needed to spend more for better quality. So I shelled out more coin for more expensive palettes and ended up with the same problem. Blah color payoff!
I ended up trying different shadow primers in the hopes of getting the results that I wanted. Nothing worked. Then one day, I was watching a video from ThriftyBeauty1 and decided to try using my NYX Glitter Primer as just a shadow primer. That…was a game changer! Suddenly my eyeshadow looks became more vibrant and intense. Most of my palettes are drugstore and cheaper brands like BH Cosmetics.

I also started using this as an eyebrow primer! Yeah, you heard me. I hate most of my brow products because they are all too cool or ashy looking on me. An old trick is to use just plain eyeshadow as a brow powder. I have every shade of brown known to man, so I was able to find a nice warm shade for my brows. But I was running into the same problem with the pigmentation issue. In come NYX Glitter Primer to the rescue! Now, just look at the difference:
This has made such a difference that I’ve stopped chasing my eyeshadow holy grail and started enjoying all of the palettes that I already own!
I’m really excited to finally create some fun looks with this:)
